35 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shaqīq narrated to me; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ashʿath informed us; he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd al-ʿAmmī related to us, from his father, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“No people ever cheat in measure or defraud in weight without Allah withholding the rain from them. Whenever fornication becomes widespread among a people, death spreads in their midst. Whenever usury takes hold among a people, Allah Most High unleashes madness upon them. Whenever killing becomes prevalent among a people so that they slay one another, Allah Most High grants their enemy authority over them. Whenever the practice of the people of Lot appears among a people, the earth swallows them up. And whenever a people abandon enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, their deeds are no longer raised ⦗40⦘ and their supplications go unheard.”
