312 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Idrīs al-Ḥanẓalī related to me, ⦗200⦘ he said: Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā told me; he said: Abū Rūḥ—one of the Shīʿa—reported to me:
“We were sitting in Mecca in the Sacred Mosque when a man stood up, half of whose face was black and the other half white. He proclaimed, ‘People, draw a lesson from my case! I used to assail the two Shaykhs, Abū Bakr and ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them), by reviling them. One night, while I was minding my own affairs, someone came to me, raised his hand, and struck me square across the face, saying, “Enemy of Allah, you flagrant sinner! Do you revile the two Shaykhs, Abū Bakr and ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them)?” When morning came, I found myself in this condition.’"
