34 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ narrated to me; he said: Abū Naṣr al-Tammār narrated to us; he said: Kawthar narrated to me, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“By Him in whose hand my soul lies, the Hour will not be established until Allah appoints lying governors, libertine ministers, treacherous aides, tyrannical ward chiefs, and sin-ridden reciters. Their outward appearance is that of monks, yet their hearts are more putrid than a corpse. Their whims pull them in different directions, and Allah will open for them a dusty, dark ordeal into which they will plunge headlong just as the Jews once did.

By Him in whose hand Muhammad’s soul lies, the bonds of Islam will certainly be undone one link after another, until no one says, ‘Allah, Allah.’ You must enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, or else Allah will set your worst people over you; they will subject you to grievous torment, and then your best will pray, but their prayers will not be answered.

You must enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, or else Allah will surely send against you those who will show no mercy to your young and no respect for your elders. ⦗39⦘ Whoever does not show mercy to our young and honor to our elders is not one of us.”
