Al-'UqubatIbn Abi al-Dunya

308 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn Saʿid related to me; he said: Musa ibn Ayyub narrated to us; he said: ʿUqbah al-Bayruti narrated to us, from al-Awzaʿi, from Yahya, who said:

“While a woman was standing beside a lamp, keeping it alight, a man stared at her. She noticed him and realized that he intended to come near, so she turned to him and said, ‘Do you fill your eyes with something that is not yours?’

Ibn Ziyad ibn Muhammad added in his report from ʿUqbah that the man then prayed to his Lord to take away his sight, and his eyesight was indeed taken. He remained blind for twenty years, unable to see a thing. When he grew old he begged his Lord to restore his sight, and Allah returned it to him.”

Yahya ibn Abi Kathir said: “Someone who had seen him sighted before he went blind told me, and the same person later saw him as an elderly man whose sight had been restored after his blindness.”
