285 – ‘Abd Allah narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Yahya narrated to me; he said: Muhammad ibn ‘Ubayd narrated to us; he said: ‘Isa ibn al-Mughira narrated to me, from Ibrahim al-Taymi, ⦗186⦘ that Gabriel—peace be upon him—said: “I have never envied the mercy shown to any child of Adam except to Pharaoh when he uttered what he uttered; I feared that his plea might reach the Lord and He would show him mercy, so I scooped up mud and foam from the sea, smeared it over his face and eyes, and then I drowned him.”
