2 – ʿAbd Allāh said: Mujāhid ibn Mūsā informed us; he said: al-Walīd ibn Muslim informed us; he said: Thawr informed us, from Khālid ibn Maʿdān, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, who said:

“When the Muslims captured Cyprus and its people were scattered—each group torn from the other—they sat down weeping together, and Abū al-Dardāʾ wept as well. I said, ‘What makes you weep on a day when Allah has honored Islam and humbled idolatry and its adherents?’ He replied, ‘Leave me alone, Jubayr. How insignificant people become in Allah’s sight when they abandon His command! Before us is a nation that was once dominant and powerful; when they neglected the command of Allah they ended up as you now see.’”
