253 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; he said: al-ʿAbbās ibn Yazīd narrated to us; he said: Muʿādh ibn Hishām narrated to us; he said: my father narrated to me, from Mūsā ibn Jamīl, from Abū Rūḥ, from Abū al-Jald, who said:

“I seek refuge in Allah from a time when the elder clings to empty hopes while the youth grows defiant; when those who were declared free are never truly emancipated. In that age there will be people who entertain hope but feel no fear, and their prayers will go unanswered. In that age there will be people whose hearts are like the hearts of wolves—they will show no mercy to one another.”
