245 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Rajaʾ ibn al-Sanadi narrated to us; he said: al-Nadr ibn Shumayl narrated to us; he said: Shuʿbah narrated to us; he said: ʿAdī ibn Thābit informed me; he said: I heard Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, reporting from Ibn ʿAbbās, say:

“Gabriel—peace be upon him—kept stuffing clay into Pharaoh’s mouth so that he would not say, ‘There is no god but Allah.’”
