241 – ʿAbd Allah narrated: Ishaq b. Ismaʿil told us; he said: Yahya b. ʿIsa told us; he said: al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from al-Minhal b. ʿAmr—Yahya said: I think it is from ʿAbd Allah b. al-Harith—from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said:

“A severe hardship and famine struck the Children of Israel. They said, ‘O Moses, pray to your Lord for us.’ He prayed for them, and Allah, exalted is He, revealed: ‘O Moses, you speak on behalf of a people whose sins have darkened what lies between Me and them. They have called upon you, yet you did not respond to them? By My might, had they called upon Me alone, I would surely have answered them.’”
