219 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Mūsā told me; he said: Masʿūd ibn ʿAmr related, from Yūsuf ibn Asbāṭ, who said: I heard Sufyān al-Thawrī say:
“A prophet was ordered to instruct his people to let the water of faith enter them, but they refused. So Allah revealed to him: ‘Leave them; do not remain in their midst.’ ⦗145⦘ He departed, and on his way he passed by another prophet who was drawing water with his bucket. The latter said to him, ‘Come down and drink from it.’ He answered, ‘I have been commanded to keep going and not to dismount.’ But the other kept urging him until he dismounted and drank. Then Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to him and said, ‘You were commanded not to dismount, yet you did. Allah will unleash against you a fierce lion: it will smash your chest and devour part of your liver.’ He went on, and a lion confronted him, broke his spine, and ate from his liver.”
