218 – He said: Abū Bakr ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Dunyā narrated to us; Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Bassām told us; ʿĀmir ibn Yasāf related, from Mālik ibn Dīnār, who said:
“While a rabbi from the Children of Israel was reclining on a couch, he noticed one of his sons winking at women. He said, ‘Steady, my son—only a light rebuke.’ But scarcely had he spoken when a punishment from Allah struck him: he was hurled from his couch and his spinal cord was severed, his wife miscarried, and it was said to him, ‘Was this the extent of your anger for My sake? Begone; no good shall ever be found in your line again.’”
