216 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Shujaʿ b. al-Ashras narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Ghafur narrated to us, from Hammam, from Kaʿb, who said:

“David, peace be upon him, used to choose the company of the poor, wept profusely, and would say: ‘My Lord, forgive the poor and the sinners, so that You may forgive me along with them.’ Before that, however, he had been praying against the sinners.”
