213 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn related to me; he said: al-Salt b. Hakim narrated to me, from Saʿid b. Ibrahim al-Umawi, from Muhammad b. Khawwat:
“When David’s weeping over his sin went on for a long time, he was told, ‘Go to the grave of the woman’s husband and seek from him a pardon for what you have done.’ David went to the grave, and Allah allowed its occupant to speak. He called out, ‘O Uriah, I am David, and you have a claim against me.’ Uriah replied, ‘I have already forgiven you.’ David then departed, his heart now at ease. But it was revealed to him: ‘Go back and explain to him exactly what you did.’ So he returned and informed him. The man in the grave called out, ‘O David, is this how the prophets behave?’”
