187 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Yusuf b. Musa related to me; he said: ʿUbayd Allah b. Musa narrated to us, from Israʾil, from Abu Ishaq, from Zayd b. Muʿawiyah, from ʿAlqamah:

Regarding His words, “So the punishment of the Day of the Canopy seized them” (al-Shuʿarāʾ 26:189), he said: “A scorching heat struck them until it forced them out of their homes. They set off, and a cloud was raised for them. Everyone whom Allah had decreed to perish made for it; when they had all gathered beneath it, it was unleashed upon them, and not a single one escaped. That is the meaning of the Exalted One’s words: ‘So the punishment of the Day of the Canopy seized them’ (al-Shuʿarāʾ 26:189).”
