Al-'UqubatIbn Abi al-Dunya

166 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; he said: Hārūn ibn ʿAbdullāh narrated to me; Saʿīd ibn ʿĀmir said, Muʿtamir related to us, saying:

“A man met Jacob (peace be upon him) and asked, ‘O Jacob, why do I no longer see you as you used to be?’ He replied, ‘The long passage of time and the multitude of sorrows.’

Later, another passer-by encountered him and said, ‘Say: O Allah, grant me relief and a way out from every concern and grief that besets me in matters of my worldly life and my hereafter. Forgive me my sins, firmly plant my hope in You within my heart, and sever it from all others, so that I place my hope in none but You.’”
