162 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn ʿAbbād ibn Mūsā likewise narrated to me; he said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Qurashī narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān, who said: I heard Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī say: ⦗111⦘ “By Allah, had the murder of Joseph actually been carried out, Allah would have cast them into the Fire. Yet He held Himself back so that His decree concerning him might come to completion. Nor did Allah recount their story to you as evidence that they are among the people of Paradise; rather, Allah wanted someone to take a lesson—and that no servant should ever despair.”
