160 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; he said: Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī al-ʿIjlī narrated to us; he said: ʿAmr ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from ʿIkrima, from Ibn ʿAbbās, reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: ⦗110⦘ “I marvel at the patience and magnanimity of my brother Joseph—may Allah forgive him—when he was offered the chance to leave prison yet refused to go out until they had proclaimed his innocence. Had it been me, I would have hurried straight to the door. And had he not spoken the words he spoke, he would not have stayed in prison as long as he did, for he sought his release through someone other than Allah.”
