15 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Abi Hatim narrated to me, ⦗28⦘ he said: Saʿd—or Saʿid ibn Yunus ibn Abi ʿAmr al-Shaybani—narrated to us, from ʿImran Abu al-Hudhayl, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, who said:

“When David committed the sin he pleaded, ‘My Lord, forgive me.’ Allah replied, ‘I have forgiven it for you, but I have fastened its disgrace upon the Children of Israel.’ David asked, ‘How is that, my Lord, when You are the Just Judge who never wrongs anyone? I am the one who sinned—why should its shame be imposed on others?’ Allah then revealed to him: ‘O David, when you dared to disobey Me, they did not hasten to denounce your wrongdoing.’”
