141 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: Jaʿfar ibn ʿAwn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allah, the brother of Abū ʿUmays, narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Awsat, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Kabsha al-Anmārī, from his father, who said:
“When we were on the Tabūk expedition, some people hurried ahead and entered the dwellings of al-Ḥijr. News of this reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he ordered that a proclamation be made: ‘The congregational prayer!’ I met him while he was holding the reins of his camel, and he said, ‘Why do you enter the abode of a people upon whom Allah’s wrath descended?’
A man called out, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we are only astonished by them!’ ⦗94⦘ He replied, ‘Shall I not tell you of something even more astonishing? A man from among you who informs you of what came before you and what will come after you. So remain upright and aim true, for Allah cares nothing about chastising you in the least, and Allah will bring forth a people who will be unable to ward off anything from themselves.’”
