137 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn also related to me; he said: al-Salt ibn Ḥakīm reported to us; he said: Abū ʿĀṣim al-ʿAbbādānī narrated to us, from Ziyād al-Jaṣṣāṣ, from Muʿāwiya ibn Qurra, who said:

“When Ṣāliḥ told them, ‘The punishment will overtake you on the morning of the third day, and the sign of that is that when you rise your faces will be black,’ they put on coarse hair-cloth and perfumed themselves with the mixture used for shrouds. Fathers embraced their sons, mothers their daughters, and they remained standing, weeping, screaming, and blaming one another. Then the Cry seized them—‘and they were left lifeless in their homes, as though they had never lived there’ (Q 11:68).”
