135 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; and ʿUbaydullāh ibn Saʿd al-Qurashī also narrated to us. He said: my uncle informed us; he said: my father narrated to us, from Ibn Isḥāq, who said: Yaʿqūb ibn ʿUtbah ibn al-Mughīrah ibn al-Akhnas related to me that he had been told:
“They fixed their gaze upon the rock on the hillside at the moment when Ṣāliḥ finished the supplication he had made. The rock heaved with the she-camel as a pregnant woman heaves in labor; the hillside stirred, then quivered, and finally split apart, and a she-camel came forth exactly as they had described—huge, broad-bodied, and covered with shaggy hair … the distance between her flanks, in its vastness, is known to none but Allah, exalted is He. Thereupon some of them believed in him, while others rejected him.”
