13 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; he said: Yaḥyā ibn Bisṭām narrated to us; he said: Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAmr al-Ṣanʿānī narrated to me:
Allah revealed to Joshua son of Nun: “I am about to destroy from your people forty thousand of their righteous and sixty thousand of their wicked.”
He said, “My Lord, those are the wicked—what guilt is upon the righteous?”
He replied, “They never grew indignant for My sake; they kept eating and drinking with them.”
١٣ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ بِسْطَامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، قَالَ: " أَوْحَى اللَّهُ ﷿ إِلَى يُوشَعَ بْنِ نُونٍ: إِنِّي مُهْلِكٌ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفًا مِنْ خِيَارِهِمْ، وَسِتِّينَ أَلْفًا مِنْ شِرَارِهِمْ، قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ، هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَشْرَارُ، فَمَا بَالُ الْأَخْيَارِ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَغْضَبُوا، وَكَانُوا يُؤَاكِلُونَهُمْ وَيُشَارِبُونَهُمْ "
