126 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn related to me; he said: ʿUbayd b. Ishaq al-Dabbi related to me; he said: al-ʿAlaʾ b. Maymun informed us, from al-Hakam b. ʿUtaybah, that a man of the Murad tribe, from the Salmaniyyin, known by the kunya Abu ʿAbd Allah, told him:

“Ouways al-Qarani passed by a fuller on an exceedingly cold day, and the man was standing in water up to the tops of his thighs. Ouways said, ‘Like this,’ then stretched out his hand and moved it, out of compassion for him because he was standing in the water. The fuller said to him, ‘O Ouways, if only that tree had never been created!’”
