“When Adam ate from the tree from which he had been forbidden, Allah—exalted is He—said to him, ‘What moved you to disobey Me?’ He replied, ‘My Lord, Eve made it appealing to me.’ ⦗81⦘ He said, ‘Then I have decreed that she shall not conceive except in hardship, nor give birth except in hardship, and I have ordained for her a flow of blood twice a month.’ When Eve heard that, she let out a plaintive cry, so He said, ‘The cry is upon you and upon your daughters.’”
