117 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Qurashi and al-Husayn b. ʿAli also narrated to us; they said: Muhammad b. Fudayl related to us, from Muslim al-Aʿwar, ⦗80⦘ from Mujahid, from ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAmr, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “Allah did not unleash upon ʿĀd, of the wind that destroyed them, more than a space the size of a signet-ring.” He added, “It swept past the Bedouins, lifting their livestock and belongings and suspending them between heaven and earth. When the settled folk of ʿĀd saw that wind and all that it carried, they said, ‘This is a cloud bringing us rain.’” He continued, “Then the wind hurled the Bedouins and their livestock down upon the town-dwellers.”
