112 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad narrated to me; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us; ⦗77⦘ he said: Musa ibn ʿUbaydah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said:

“Adam (peace be upon him) lived on earth for forty years without once baring his teeth in a smile, and his tears never stopped flowing. Eve said to him, ‘We have grown lonely, yearning to hear the voices of the angels. Call upon your Lord—exalted is He—so that He may let us hear their voices.’ He replied, ‘I am still too ashamed before my Lord—exalted is He—to raise my head toward the expanse of heaven because of what I have done.’”
