105 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Yaʿqūb ibn Isḥāq told me; he said: Muḥammad ibn Muʿādh al-ʿAnbarī related to us, from Ibn al-Sammāk, who said: ʿUmar ibn Dharr narrated to me, from Mujāhid, who said:

“When the branch clung to him, Adam thought that punishment had already overtaken him. He bowed his head, repeating, ‘Pardon, pardon.’ Then Allah, Exalted is He, said, ‘Are you fleeing from Me?’ He replied, ‘No, but out of modesty before You, my Master.’”
