100 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn al-Harith al-Muqriʾ narrated to me; he said: ⦗69⦘ Sayyar ibn Hatim narrated to us; he said: Jaʿfar narrated to us; he said: I heard Malik ibn Dinar, during the Year of al-Ḥaṭmah, say:

“It has reached me that no nation ever falls from Allah’s favor without Allah afflicting its elders with hunger.”
