- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu al-ʿAbbas narrated to me; Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, who said: “A man from among the devoted worshippers came to a scholar and said, ‘I wish to set out for Mecca—should I go while relying on Allah (tawakkul)?’ He replied, ‘Had you really meant to rely on Him, you would have departed without asking me.’”
٥٧ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْعُبَّادِ إِلَى عَالِمٍ، فَقَالَ: " إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ، أَفَأَخْرُجُ وَأَتَوَكَّلُ؟ قَالَ: لَوْ أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَتَوَكَّلَ لَخَرَجْتَ وَلَمْ تَسْأَلْنِي "
