- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu al-ʿAbbas al-Basri al-Azdi related to me, from a shaykh of the Azd, who said: A man once came to Wahb ibn Munabbih and asked, “Teach me something through which Allah will benefit me.” Wahb replied, “Speak often of death, shorten your worldly hopes, and—there is a third trait—if you acquire it you will have attained the highest objective and won true worship.” The man asked, “What is it?” He answered, “tawakkul (placing your trust in Allah).”
