Al-Tawakkul 'ala AllahIbn Abi al-Dunya
  1. ʿAbd Allah narrated to me; he said: ʿAlī narrated to me, from Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn, who related: Ḥakīm ibn Jaʿfar told me; he said: ʿIṣām ibn Ṭalīq told me, from a shaykh among the people of Basra, from Abū al-Jild, who said:
A man of non-Arab descent met me and complained about his ruler and the injustice he was facing. I said to him, “Shall I not guide you to something that, if you hold fast to it and leave everything else, will spare you from the ruler and from anyone else?” He answered, “Indeed.” I said, “Return to your family and place your trust in Allah concerning every one of your affairs; if you do so, you will find what I have told you to be true.”

Later he met me again, thanking me profusely and saying, “By Allah, that very day I went back to my family and relied upon Allah, and it was not long before what I desired came to me.”
