50 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Saʿīd ibn Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd al-ʿĀqirī recited to me some of his own verses:
[al-Baḥr al-Kāmil]

A chronic liar chanced to speak the truth, though truth was never his—
For greed is born along the road of anxious doubt.

Allah has allotted every matter in His perfect knowledge,
Apportioning within it both deprivation and provision.

So when you petition, do not turn to one who must petition too;
And when you rely, rely not upon a created being.

If therefore you depend, let your confidence be in your Lord alone,
Not in the stores you deem secure and have at hand.
