33 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm reported to us; Muḥammad ibn Munīb al-ʿAdanī related to us; al-Sarrī ibn Yaḥyā told me, from Wuhaib ibn al-Ward:
Two men were shipwrecked at sea. After being cast ashore, they found a hut built of timber and took shelter there. One night, while one of them was asleep and the other awake, two women appeared and stopped at the door. Their appearance was so hideous—Allah alone knows how repulsive—that one said to the other, “Go in.” The second replied, “Woe to you, I cannot!” The first asked, “Woe to you, why not?” She answered, “Do you not see what is inside the house?” There, hanging inside, was a tablet inscribed with the words: hasbiya Allah wa kafā (Allah is sufficient for me, and that suffices); samiʿa Allahu liman daʿā (Allah hears whoever calls upon Him); laysa warāʾa Allāhi muntahā (beyond Allah there is no final refuge).
