52 – Muhammad ibn Bashir al-Kindi informed us; Muhammad ibn Bakr al-Saʿdi passed it on from al-Haytham ibn Jammaz, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, who said:
“It used to be said: No servants ever ennoble themselves with anything better than obedience to Allah, and no servants ever debase themselves with anything worse than disobedience to Allah. It is enough for you, as far as an enemy is concerned, that you see him disobeying Allah, and it is enough for you, as far as a friend is concerned, that you see him obeying Allah.”
