[al-Baḥr al-Kāmil]
You see the youth, fearful of death, running from it,
while it has already closed in on every side—if only he perceived it.
It has set its snares for him all around;
and when his appointed day arrives, he will be granted no delay.
A man whose father and mother now lie beneath the earth
is surely bound to pause and reflect.
Your scroll—the very record you yourself dictated—will be handed to you;
when it is unrolled you will behold what it contains.
Its good deeds, duly counted, will be praiseworthy;
as for the sins—ask yourself which of the two will prove the greater.
