25 – Bashshār ibn Mūsā narrated to us; Bashīr ibn Surayḥ, a Basran, transmitted; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Aʿraj narrated from Abū Hurayrah, who said: I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: ⦗51⦘ “Deeds fall into six categories: a deed rewarded with its like, a deed rewarded with double, a deed rewarded tenfold, a deed rewarded seven-hundredfold, a deed that makes Paradise obligatory, and a deed that makes Hellfire obligatory.”
They asked, “How is that, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “As for the deed rewarded with its like: when a man intends a good deed but does not carry it out, one good deed is still recorded for him; and when a man intends an evil deed but refrains from it, nothing is recorded against him. A man who actually performs a good deed has it multiplied for him tenfold. A man who spends in the path of Allah has it multiplied for him seven-hundredfold. And there is a deed that ensures entry into Paradise, and a deed that makes one deserving of the Fire.”
