196 – Surayj ibn Yūnus narrated to me; ʿAbbād ibn al-ʿAwwām narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim, who said: “I heard al-Ḥasan, regarding Allah the Exalted’s words, ‘No indeed! Rather, a rust has settled upon their hearts because of what they used to earn’ (Al-Muṭaffifīn 14), say: ‘Do you know what that rust is? It is sin upon sin—one transgression after another—until the heart dies.’”
