192 – Muhammad narrated to me, saying: al-Salt ibn Ḥakīm narrated to us:
He said: One night we were visiting a companion of ours, and Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān was with us. One of our Qur’an reciters began to say, ⦗141⦘ “Why should I not weep over sin? I see sin as an illness lodged in the inmost parts and in the heart.” Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān started to weep and kept saying, “Repeat for us, ‘I see sin as an illness lodged in the inmost parts and in the heart.’” The man went on repeating it until, by Allah, I thought his very soul was about to leave him.
