182 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn told me, “Shihāb ibn ʿAbbād told me; Suwayd ibn ʿAmr al-Kalbī narrated to us, from Maslamah ibn Jaʿfar who said: Abū al-Muhajjil al-Asadī related to me that ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allāh said:
“Treat your sins with tawbah (repentance), for many a penitent has been led by his repentance all the way to Paradise, until it delivered him there as an honored guest.” ⦗137⦘
ʿAwn also said, “The heart of a repentant person is like glass: everything that strikes it leaves an imprint. Admonition therefore reaches their hearts quickly, and they are closer to tenderness.”
And he said as well, “Keep the company of those who repent, for Allah’s mercy is closest to the remorseful.”
