124 – Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; Jarir narrated from al-Aʿmash, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, from Salim ibn Abi al-Jaʿd, who said:
Jesus son of Mary said to the Children of Israel, “You claim that Moses forbade you from fornication—and you have spoken the truth. I likewise forbid you ⦗105⦘ from it, and I tell you that the likeness of a soul’s inner talk about a sin is like smoke inside a house: even if it does not set the house ablaze, it taints the air, spoils its smell, and discolors it. The same is true of a fire-drill boring into a piece of wood: if it does not break it outright, it will still hollow it out and weaken it.”
