123 – ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Salih narrated to us; Ismaʿil ibn Ibrahim narrated from Ayyub, from al-Hasan, who, when speaking about the Sabbath-breakers, said: “They kept wavering—intending to sin, then holding back—and I have rarely seen anyone who dwells at length on a sin without finally committing it. They went on until they seized the catch, ate it, and were taken to task for it. By Allah, it was the most ruinous mouthful any people have ever eaten: it left them with lasting disgrace in this world and the severest punishment in the Hereafter.”
