8 – Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Azdi narrated to me, from ʿAbdan ibn ʿUthman, from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubarak, that he would recite: ⦗36⦘
(metre: al-Baḥr al-Wāfir)
How can you long to be hailed as a sage
while you leap upon every desire you fancy?
You laugh incessantly, rolling back and belly—
recall what you have done, yet you do not melt away.
