83 – Al-Zubayr ibn Abī Bakr narrated to me; he said: Saʿd ibn Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd narrated to me, from his brother, from his grandfather, from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: “Whenever anyone related a report to me from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, I would ask him to swear by Allah that he had indeed heard it from the Messenger of Allah—except for Abū Bakr, for he never told a lie. Abū Bakr told me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘No servant commits a sin, then remembers that sin, rises, performs ablution, prays two units, and asks Allah to forgive that sin, except that Allah forgives him.’”
