Al-TawbaIbn Abi al-Dunya

66 – Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān recited to me a poem composed by a man of Banū Tamīm (Ṭawīl metre):

I lament over my own soul and weep for a sin
whose train of misdeeds has weighed my back down.

O pleasure whose stay was all too brief,
and O regret that endures, leaving me with no excuse.
