63 – ʿAlī ibn Abī Maryam narrated to me, from Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd, ⦗74⦘ from Ashʿath ibn Shuʿbah, who said: Ibn ʿAwn remarked, “Do not put your trust in the sheer number of your deeds, for you do not know whether they will be accepted from you or not. Nor should you feel secure about your sins, for you do not know whether they have been expiated for you or not. All your deeds are hidden from you; you have no idea what Allah will do with them—whether He will consign them to Sijjīn or raise them to ʿIlliyyīn.”
