58 – Muhammad b. Idris related to me; Yaʿqub b. Kaʿb al-Halabi related to us; al-Walid b. Muslim related, from ʿUthman b. Abi al-ʿAtikah, that David used to say:

“Subhana khaliqa an-nur (Glory be to the Creator of light). My God, when I recall my sin, the earth in all its vastness closes in on me; but when I recall Your mercy, my spirit is restored to me. ⦗71⦘ Subhana khaliqa an-nur (Glory be to the Creator of light). My God, I have gone out seeking from the physicians among Your servants someone to heal my sin, yet every one of them directs me to You. Subhana khaliqa an-nur (Glory be to the Creator of light). My God, woe to the one who commits a sin whose harvest is Your punishment, unless You pardon it for him.”
