8 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zabban al-Ṭāʾī narrated to us; al-Muḥāribī narrated to us, from Badr ibn ʿUthmān, from al-Ḥuwayrith ibn Naṣr al-ʿĀmirī, from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, who said:
“No day of this world passes without saying, as it comes to a close: ‘People, I arrived to you new, and now the moment of my departure has come. No doer of good can add any further good within me, and no wrongdoer who has sinned can seek to set right what he spoiled within me. Praise be to Allah, who has not made me today barren.’ Then it leaves.”
Badr said: “And I have been informed that the night says the same.”
٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زَبَّانَ الطَّائِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، عَنْ بَدْرِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ الْحُوَيْرِثِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ الْعَامِرِيِّ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، قَالَ: " مَا مَضَى يَوْمٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا يَقُولُ عِنْدَ مُضِيِّهِ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنَا الَّذِي قَدِمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ جَدِيدًا، وَقَدْ حَانَ مِنِّي تَصَرُّمٌ، فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ مُحْسِنٌ أَنْ يَزْدَادَ فِيَّ إِحْسَانًا، وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ مُسِيءٌ أَسَاءَ أَنْ يَسْتَعْتِبَ فِيَّ مَنْ أَسَاءَ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَجْعَلْنِي الْيَوْمَ الْعَقِيمَ، ثُمَّ يَذْهَبُ ". قَالَ بَدْرٌ: «وَبَلَغَنِي أَنَّ اللَّيْلَ يَقُولُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ»
