59 – Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān recited to us these lines composed by al-Mughīra ibn Ḥabnāʾ (Ṭawīl metre):
A freshly born day and its night keep wrestling with me;
Together they have consumed my life—and every youth’s—till both are worn.
Whenever a month is stripped away, I hail another just like it;
The constant peeling of months and the greetings I must give them are trial enough.
