28 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn narrated to me; he said: al-Humaydi narrated to me, from Sufyan, who said: “They report that one of the sages used to say: ‘Time is made up of three days. Yesterday is a wise tutor—it has left within you the counsel of its wisdom and planted in you its admonition and its lesson. Your today is a visiting friend who is taking his leave: he had been away from you for a long while, he came to you though you did not go to him, and he is quick to depart from you. As for tomorrow, you do not know whether you will live to see it or not.’”
