Kalam al-Layali wa-l-AyyamIbn Abi al-Dunya

17 – ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿIsa al-Tufawi narrated to me; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Shumayt ibn Ajlan narrated to us; he said: I heard my father say:

“The believer reminds himself: ‘Life is but three days. Yesterday is gone with whatever it contained. Tomorrow is nothing but a hope you may never reach. If you should be granted tomorrow, know that tomorrow will arrive with its own provision. Yet between you and tomorrow lies one full day and night in which many souls are taken—perhaps yours will be among them. Let each day suffice with its own concern.’”
